Sidney Crosby Explains Why He Bestowed Huge Honor Upon Brad Marchand

Brad Marchand and Sidney Crosby have never played alongside each other in the NHL, but they’ve shared a few special moments.

Team Canada secured a victory in the 4 Nations Face-Off on Thursday, raising the trophy following a thrilling overtime win over Team USA at TD Garden. Crosby and Marchand won in a best-on-best international tournament before, but this one had some added meaning to it — with both men capturing their sixth gold medal apiece.

Crosby, as team captain, was the first to raise the trophy following the victory before handing it off to his longtime national teammate.

“We were in Boston, he was an older guy,” Crosby said following the game, per video provided by Bridgette Proulx. “Him being in his home building here, and being right next to me worked out well.”

Marchand had never before raised a trophy with his championship-winning team at TD Garden as Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final took place over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.

Marchand got his chance on Thursday, though, and will hope to one day replicate it with the Boston Bruins.
