Charlie McAvoy Inspires Team USA Before 4 Nations Title Game
BOSTON — Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is used to hearing cheers in the home locker room at TD Garden.
McAvoy, fresh from being discharged from Massachusetts General Brigham and sporting a sling on his right arm, was introduced as a “special guest” by Team USA head coach (and his father-in-law) Mike Sullivan.
The injured 27-year-old New York native was on hand to announce the starting lineup of Jack Eichel, Matthew Tkachuk, Brady Tkachuk, Jaccob Slavin, Brock Faber and Connor Hellebuyck for Sullivan’s squad against Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game.
“In the left, Brady. In the middle, we got Eichs. On the right Chucky,” McAvoy said. “On the back, Slavs, Fabes. And in net, where is he? Helle!”
As he completed the lineup, McAvoy was greeted with cheers and hugs from his teammates.
McAvoy was forced to miss the final round-robin game against Sweden in the 4 Nations tournament after sustaining an upper-body injury against Finland while in Montreal.
