How safe Ange Postecoglou's job is at Tottenham; Journalist reveals all

0 23

The Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has given insight into what Tottenham are thinking about Ange Postecoglou’s future and how likely the Australian is to get sacked before the end of the season.

It seems like the storm might have finally passed at Tottenham as the club’s injury situation is now starting to ease off.

Wilson Odobert, James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie are all back from their layoffs, and more senior Spurs stars are expected to return to action over the coming weeks.

The win over Manchester United has temporarily eased the pressure on Postecoglou, but Spurs are still sitting in 12th place in the Premier League table and have a lot of work to do if they are to end the season in a respectable position.

Ange Postecoglou is likely safe for the season at Tottenham

Kilpatrick has now revealed that the noises from inside Hotspur Way have always maintained that the 59-year-old is not under threat of losing his job as the Spurs hierarchy were understanding of the injury situation.

The journalist suggested that Postecoglou is guaranteed to see out the rest of the season at Spurs, partly because no decent replacement is available before the summer.

Kilpatrick has said on Rule The Roost Podcast: “Well, look, the noises from the club throughout this kind of awful winter have been that Postecoglou is safe, he’s got the full support of the board, and that they understand the injury crisis as the biggest reason for results.

“And that’s been borne out in the fact that he’s still in the job, frankly. I think it is fair to say that the landscape for managers has not been great. It’s not as if there’s been an obvious alternative out there, and maybe the situation would be different if there had been several free agents on the market who could play progressive football and wanted the job.

“That’s a counterfactual we just don’t know. So Postecoglou is obviously safe for now. He’s probably safe until the end of the season, to be honest, because again, there’s just no one Spurs could get mid-season.”

Postecoglou’s long-term future depends on Europa League performances

Spurs’ injury situation is now getting better, and the fixture list is no longer very crowded for the remainder of the season.

Postecoglou thus does not have any excuses and will know that his side have to show significant improvements over the next few months to convince his employers to keep faith in him.

At the very least, the Australian has to take Tottenham to the semifinals of the Europa League and secure a top-eight finish if he wants to remain in the job next season.
