Alex Bregman Already Impressed By Top Red Sox Prospects
Alex Bregman is still getting used to life as a member of the Boston Red Sox.
Bregman didn’t officially sign his contract until Saturday, so this week has primarily been used to gain familiarity with his new teammates. Boston began full squad workouts on Monday, which allowed the 30-year-old to begin his work and simultaneously latch onto a rather popular trend down at Fenway South.
“The Big Three” has left him rather impressed.
“(Kristian Campbell is) really good. Marcelo (Mayer) is really good. Roman Anthony is really good,” Bregman said on the “Section 10” podcast on Thursday. “Super mature beyond their years. Obviously, ridiculous talent — like, All-Star talent… Marcelo and Campbell and Roman are coming. (Triston) Casas is very young, he’s gonna be a stud — he already is a stud… It really reminds me a lot of when we were younger in Houston. I’m really looking forward to this opportunity.”
Bregman has experience with stud prospects, having been one himself alongside the likes of George Springer, Carlos Correa, Kyle Tucker, Joe Musgrove, Yordan Álvarez, Framber Valdez, etc. on that ridiculous run the Astros went on a few years back.
The Red Sox have built up a similarly impressive group of youngsters, who are expected to soon join their stable of stars.
“Then you have franchise players like (Rafael Devers) and Jarren (Duran) that are there, just superstars in the game — perennial All-Stars,” Bregman said. “Trevor (Story) is an All-Star, who is looking forward to having a healthy season and showing what he’s about. Then you look across the room and see the pitching staff and you’re like, ‘Wow, this is serious.'”
Boston made serious strides this offseason, with the additions of Bregman, Garrett Crochet, Walker Buehler and others helping turn the organization back into a perceived contender.
It’ll take everyone to make that a reality, though, which the newest member of the roster believes will be helped by three prospects with their eyes on making it up to Boston.
