Ange Postecoglou confident one Spurs newcomer will be ‘outstanding’
Ange Postecoglou has assessed Antonin Kinsky’s performances in a Tottenham shirt so far and explained why he is confident that the youngster is going to evolve into a top-class goalkeeper.
Antonin Kinsky’s mixed fortunes at Tottenham so far
Spurs signed Kinsky from Slavia Prague during the first few days of the January transfer window in order to help the squad cope with the injury absence of Guglielmo Vicario.
Johan Lange revealed a couple of weeks ago that the 21-year-old was initially identified as a target for the summer, but Tottenham decided to bring forward their interest due to the Italian’s injury.
While the youngster did showcase his confidence in possession and made some important saves, he also had a few nervy moments and let in a goal that he really should have saved during Spurs’ 2-1 loss at Villa Park in the FA Cup last week.
Ange Postecoglou makes a confident Antonin Kinsky claim
Vicario came straight back into the starting lineup after being passed fit to play against Man Utd, and the Spurs number one delivered a flawless display, showing his experience and leadership, and helping the side come away with a clean sheet and all three points.
However, despite relegating Kinsky to the bench, Postecoglou has showered praise on the young Czech stopper, praising the way he reacted after his mistake against Villa and backing him to evolve into an elite goalkeeper.
The Tottenham head coach said about the youngster (via Football.London): “I’ve been really happy with Tony. Even at Villa, I mean, obviously, you know he made the mistake, but his reaction to that was I thought outstanding for a 21-year-old in that environment to bounce back from a mistake like that.
“I mean we’ve thrown him in and given him some enormous tasks with very little sort of preparation and I just think he’s going to be an outstanding goalkeeper.
“Brandon as well has really grown through this period, so I know [Rob] Birchy’s really happy now with the goalkeeping group in that we’ve got a really strong goalkeeping group now that can push each other.
“Really, really pleased to get Toni into the club, because we think he’s going to be an outstanding goalkeeper and no better one to work alongside than than Vic.”
Kinsky can learn a lot from Guglielmo Vicario
Vicario is a model professional, a leader and a complete team man. There is no one better for Kinsky to learn from than the 28-year-old.
The Tottenham newcomer will benefit a lot from watching the Italy international train in close quarters and one would expect the youngster to pick Vicario’s brain a lot during training.
