'I'm comfortable': 'World-class' United star breaks silence on his future, wants to stay next season
Manchester United suffered their 12th defeat of the Premier League campaign following a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on the road yesterday.
The Red Devils were unconvincing in the final third. They were guilty of missing clear-cut chances which has been a regular theme this campaign.
Casemiro made his first start of the year in midfield for United following injuries to Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer in training.
Christian Eriksen was also unavailable to face his former club due to illness.
Casemiro won 11 out of his 17 duels contested but was guilty of losing possession on 12 occasions. He was dribbled past four times and won just 43 per cent of his tackles.
Despite his poor showing, the midfielder has no plans of heading for the exit door. He is prepared to see out his United contract which expires during the summer of 2026.
He told AS: “I’d like to help the club at this time. I approach things with respect for my teammates and the technical committee.
“And above all, I respect United, a club to which I’m very grateful. I have a year and a half left on my contract and I’d like to fulfil it here in Manchester.
“I’m comfortable here, and so is my family. They’ve adapted, we speak English. I’m very grateful to the Old Trafford fans and to the club. I’m happy at club level.
“Happy in the dugout? Of course not. That’s another thing.”
Casemiro made a bright start to his United career under manager Erik ten Hag, but his performances have regressed over the last one-and-a-half seasons.
Amorim has repeatedly ignored him since his appointment. The midfielder has not come off the bench in 13 of the last 19 games under the Portuguese.
Yesterday’s decision was forced on Amorim with the vast and unexpected injuries. Casemiro could be dropped against Everton with Ugarte and Collyer poised to return to training.
Casemiro, described as ‘world-class‘ by Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, could depart United this summer despite his apparent desire to stay.
The midfielder turned down a move to Roma during the winter transfer window. He is open to a big payday in the Saudi Pro League in future.
