Darts were back on home soil again as we welcomed Bromley FC to Princes Park in the semi final of the Kent Cup. This was one of our biggest games of the season so far and this cup tie certainly had it all!
The visitors started brightly and created the first chance of the game early on. In the 4th minute, a well worked move from Bromley put Beth Hull through on goal. The Bromley forward saw her effort on goal saved by Darts keeper, Paris Smith.
The visitors continued to create opportunities and took the lead in the 6th minute. A corner from the right found Lucy Rix in the 6yd box who headed home to put Bromley ahead.
The Darts reacted well to going behind and we were back level midway through the first half. In the 27th minute, the Darts regained the ball deep inside the Bromley half. Darts midfielder Shauni Griffiths went through on goal and fired home to equalise for the home side.
We continued to create chances and went ahead just after the half hour mark. In the 32nd minute, from a corner, the ball dropped to Beth Powell inside the 18 yd box. The Darts midfielder sent a looping effort goal bound that went over the keeper and dropped into the far corner to put us ahead at the break.
Darts went close to sealing their place in the final just before the hour mark. In the 59th minute, Abbey Davies found Emily Vaughan free in the Bromley box. The Darts forward fired an effort on goal that came back off the post.
The visitors grew into the second half and got the equaliser midway through the half. In the 64th minute, Bromley forward Leen Ekwo got in behind the Dartford defence and poked the ball beyond the keeper to equalise for Bromley.
We went close to getting back in front four minutes later. Shauni Griffiths with a fine free kick from the edge of the box forced a super stop from Bromley keeper, Charlotte Greenwood.
The Darts continued to create chances and went close again 10 minutes before the end. In the 80th minute, Paris Smith volleyed towards goal only to be denied by another super stop from the Bromley keeper.
This game headed to penalties. Both teams scored their first four penalties but the decisive moment came late in the shootout. Bromley’s fifth penalty was superbly saved by Darts keeper, Jade Charlton
and this provided Paris Smith with the chance to send us through to the final. The Darts forward made no mistake from 12 yds and fired home to send us through to the Kent Cup Final!
