This Under-The-Radar Red Sox Pitcher Grabbing Alex Cora’s Attention
Quinn Priester started the final game of the 2024 season for the Boston Red Sox. He came over in midseason prospect swap with the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Nick Yorke.
He’s part of the reason Alex Cora should feel far better about the Red Sox pitching staff this year with improved talent and improved depth. Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler headline the rotation additions while arms in Priester, Richard Fitts and Hunter Dobbins are capable spot-start candidates waiting in the wings at Triple-A Worcester.
Cora even identified the right-hander as one of his early players to keep an eye on during spring training for the Red Sox with plenty of positivity around the pitching staff.
“Priester is another guy, if we talk about catching my eye, kind of like impressive,” Cora told reporters Friday, per team-provided video. “He put work in the offseason, and he’s a lot stronger. We saw what he did the last day. He’s got good stuff. He looks really good.”
The 24-year-old has 21 career MLB appearances and 15 starts. He’ll certainly have an impact at the big-league level for the Red Sox in 2025 with time in both Worcester and Boston in his development.
