'Available': Setback for Man United, Spurs get triple fitness boost including Maddison return

0 17

Manchester United are gearing up for a crucial Premier League showdown as they travel to London to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The hosts have received a huge boost to their squad, with key players returning just in time for the high-stakes clash.

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Destiny Udogie have all returned to full training and are available for selection ahead of the visit of United.

Vicario fractured his ankle in the win over Manchester City on November 23 which forced him to miss more than two months of action.

He is expected to start between the sticks against the Red Devils.

Maddison and Udogie suffered calf and hamstring injuries respectively but are in contention to feature on Sunday.

This news comes as a major relief for Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, who has been under fire following recent disappointing cup exits and lackluster league performances.

Meanwhile, United find themselves in a precarious position under head coach Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese coach has helped his side progress to the next round of the FA Cup and UEFA Europa League.

However, they have endured a tough league season.

Sitting 13th in the league with only 29 points from 24 matches, United are in dire need of a turnaround, having already slipped too far from the top-four chase.

Amorim will be aware that Spurs are a tough side to beat when they play at their best.

The London outfit have defeated United twice this season.

The Red Devils were thrashed 3-0 in front of the Old Trafford crowd when Erik ten Hag was in charge of the club.

Postecoglou got the better of Amorim when Tottenham knocked United out of the Carabao Cup in December.

Maddison will bring creativity to the side and could form a threatening partnership with Mathys Tel.

Udogie could return to his left-back position but face a challenge to displace Djed Spence who has fared well in recent games.

United must focus on improving their game as the fans would want them to take revenge for the previous two defeats.

Amorim needs his attack to start firing and find solutions in defence after the ACL injury to Lisandro Martinez.
