Red Sox Pitcher Reacts To Boston’s Reported Deal With Alex Bregman
Zack Kelly has a new Boston Red Sox teammate.
And he seems just as thrilled about it as Red Sox fans are after the franchise reportedly agreed to a three-year, $120 million contract with Alex Bregman on Wednesday night.
Kelly took to social media after news of Bregman’s deal broke and used a simple approach to convey his excitement as he posted six red exclamation points.
The Red Sox were linked to Bregman before the offseason even started and battled other suitors — Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers — to land the veteran infielder. Bregman reportedly turned down a bigger offer to join the Red Sox, too.
Bregman raises the ceiling of the Red Sox, who made notable improvements to their starting rotation by trading for Garrett Crochet and signing Walker Buehler before making this big-time addition to their lineup. Bregman adds a right-handed bat to a lefty-heavy order and despite a downturn in production in recent seasons, playing at hitter-friendly Fenway Park could rejuvenate him. He’s a career .375 hitter with seven home runs and 15 RBIs in 21 career regular-season games at Fenway.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora was a big fan of Bregman as the two shared the dugout with the Astros during Houston’s 2017 World Series title run.
Kelly obviously supports the move, too, and Bregman likely will get a nice, warm welcome when he reports to Red Sox spring training in the coming days.
