Kevin Millar Gives Alex Bregman ‘Homework’ After Huge Red Sox News
It took until the middle of February, but Alex Bregman found his next MLB home Wednesday night.
It happens to be with the Boston Red Sox after the veteran infielder reportedly agreed to a massive three-year, $120 million deal with opt-outs after each season.
Bregman can now pack his bags for Fort Myers, Fla., as the Red Sox will hold their first full-squad workout of spring training on Monday. But as Bregman prepares for that, he has a homework assignment, courtesy of 2004 Red Sox World Series champion Kevin Millar.
“Welcome to redsox nation @abreg_1 your homework will be to watch ‘The Comeback’ on netflix and then you and uncle Kevin family….???? Congrats dawg!” Millar wrote on Instagram.
Netflix’s “The Comeback,” which was released in October, chronicled Boston’s run to its first World Series title in 86 years in 2004.
That will give Bregman a quick history lesson on the storied franchise, but he’s plenty familiar with the Red Sox after spending the last nine seasons with the Houston Astros.
Bregman even saw the Red Sox close out a memorable playoff game at his expense in 2018. In the bottom of the ninth in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, Bregman lined a bullet to left field off then-closer Craig Kimbrel, only for Andrew Benintendi to make a specular diving grab to secure a Red Sox road win and rob Bregman of a clutch hit.
But Bregman does come to Boston with a winning pedigree, having claimed two World Series titles with the Astros — one of which came in 2017 when Alex Cora was the team’s bench coach.
Bregman has the Red Sox thinking postseason again, a place they haven’t been since 2021.
