Under-strength Spurs side dumped out of cup competitions

It would have come as a major boost to Tottenham to seal progression in the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, given how their Premier League campaign has gone pear-shaped.

However, that was not to be as an under-strength Spurs side, which had double-digit injury absentees, suffered defeats at Anfield and Villa Park in a matter of three days.

The cup exits have led to speculation over Postecoglou’s future resurfacing, but some outlets report that Tottenham will still keep faith with their current manager.

Unai Emery expects Tottenham’s results to improve

Despite seeing his side lose at Villa Park, Postecoglou was bullish in his post-match press conference that Spurs will be a force when they have key players back.

The 59-year-old even suggested that his side have the tools to go all the way in the Europa League and end the club’s trophy drought.

His opposite number, Emery, has agreed with the sentiment, backing Tottenham’s performances to improve after they get some players back.

The former Arsenal manager said after his side’s 2-1 win over Spurs (via Tom Barclay): “Of course, when they are going to recover players, they will perform again like they were doing.”

Host of Tottenham players on the cusp of return

After having to work with a squad which was down to its bare bones over the last three months, Postecoglou will now finally be able to welcome several of his key men back over the next few weeks.

According to reports, the likes of James Maddison, Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario are in line to feature against Man Utd, while Wilson Odobert, Dominic Solanke, Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson are also on the cusp of returning to training.
