Beanpot Wrap: BU Pulls Off Dramatic Win Over BC To Capture Title
BOSTON — As the No. 1 team in the country and loaded with firepower, it was supposed to be Boston College’s turn this year to lift the Dunkin’ Beanpot trophy. Or so the Eagles thought.
No. 9 Boston University had much different ideas, though, as the Terriers stunned their archrivals with a 4-1 victory at TD Garden on Monday night to capture the Beanpot title. It’s the second time the Terriers have secured the hardware in the last four seasons.
BU improved its record to 16-10-1 while BC, which came into the contest winners of nine straight games, dropped to 21-5-1.

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
Everything lined up for BC to take home its first Beanpot since 2016. And it looked that way early on with the Eagles getting off to a dominant start, which resulted in a 1-0 lead 6:13 into the contest for BC thanks to a goal from Gabe Perreault.
The Terriers, who lost two straight games to BC just over two weeks ago, were tired of the Eagles skating circles around them and responded by pushing their opponent around. BU dialed up the physicality to offset BC’s superb speed and skill and then came through with a couple of key goals in a blink.
BU scored twice in a span of 1:10 to turn a deficit into a lead nearly seven minutes into the second frame. Freshman Brandon Svoboda came down the right wing and roofed a shot past BC netminder Jacob Fowler (40 saves) for the first BU tally and Cole Hutson followed it up moments later to give all the momentum to the Terriers.
But even with that on their side, it wasn’t an easy task to hold down all the talent the Eagles possess for the rest of the game. Yet, the Terriers came up with every answer in large part due to the goaltending of Mikhail Yegorov, who showed tremendous composure in just his fifth collegiate start as he finished with 43 saves.
All of it combined led to the Terriers walking out of TD Garden with the Beanpot trophy in their grasp. And it had to feel even better knowing their accomplishment came at the expense of their bitter rival.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Hutson was the man of the hour for the Terriers. The freshman defenseman netted the decisive goal as Hutson received a cross-ice pass from Tom Willander before sniping a goal — Fowler never even moved in his crease. It was the third goal of the tournament for Hutson.
