Two cup exits in one week for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur are out of both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup in the space of a week. Their latest cup exit came on Sunday when they lost to Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Goals from Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Rogers put the home side two goals up before Mathys Tel scored late in additional time.

Tottenham Hotspur’s fight for a second goal, yielded no result as the Lilywhites came crashing out of the FA Cup, adding to Ange Postecoglou’s woes.

With each defeat, pressure is only going to mount on the Tottenham manager, who promised to deliver silverware in his second and is under pressure as his side struggles to pick up wins.

Following this latest defeat, he has now been pressed about his future at Spurs. He told football.london: “People can judge me, they can say I’m not good enough but they can’t be critical of the players during this time.

“They’ve been giving everything they can since mid-November and you can’t judge them at this point. There’s got to be a better appreciation for what this small group of players has been doing for two-and-a-half months.

“That’s not an excuse, it shouldn’t be seen that way through objective analysis and anything else would be agenda driven.”

What next for Tottenham Hotspur?

With the club now eliminated from two cup competitions, Spurs only shot at silverware hinges on how well they do in Europe.

Looking at the way they are playing, it is very difficult to see them clinch that title, however, the only bit of hope left is that, when the Europa League tournament resumes for Spurs, the majority of their injured players will be back.

This week was seen as a pivotal one for the Australian manager, as many believed that a defeat in both cups would see him out of the club, but still, no official confirmation. Next up for Spurs, is Manchester United in the Premier League.
