Kendrick Lamar Has Ultimate Mic-Drop Moment At Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show
Kendrick Lamar turned one of hip-hop’s all-time greatest diss tracks into a Super Bowl anthem in New Orleans on Sunday night.
Lamar, the first solo rap artist ever to grace the stage during the Super Bowl, had a legendary catalog to choose from in preparation. “K-Dot” performed classics like “HUMBLE.” and “DNA” at Caesars Superdome while the Philadelphia Eagles held a 24-0 cushion over the Kansas City Chiefs. But what football fans and hip-hop enthusiasts worldwide awaited was the mic drop of all mic drops: “Not Like Us.”

Drake, who was likely at home watching re-runs of the 2019 NBA Finals, caught a vicious fade as Lamar performed the 21-week-long No. 1 track on Billboard’s Hot 100 Rap Chart which also eclipsed 1 billion streams — a verbal thrashing of Canada’s own “6 God.” Lamar had a crowd of 82,000 chanting “They Not Like Us” in New Orleans, and it was even more savage than anyone could’ve anticipated.
Yes, it was expected that Lamar would perform the most impactful diss track since Tupac knockout-punched The Notorious B.I.G. with “Hit ‘Em Up,” and yes, “tv off” — another Drake diss — was also an easy prediction, but it was no less jaw-dropping. Lamar seized the moment to walk off like Kobe Bryant did after dropping 81 points against the Raptors and relish in the victory lap of a one-sided rap beef win.
Samuel L. Jackson, dressed as Uncle Sam, and Serena Williams both made surprise cameos. Lamar’s co-performer, SZA, too drew roaring applause on stage and performed “Luther” and “All the Stars” midway through the set.
The 37-year-old hip-hop icon, a week after taking five Grammy’s for “Not Like Us,” made the most out of defeating Drake. Next, Lamar and SZA will prepare for their “Grand National Tour” this summer while Drake continues his lawsuit against UMG.
