Match Preview: Queen’s Park v Hibernian – Sun 9 Feb 25
The Spiders return to action sees them host Hibernian in ScottishPower WPL 1 action on Sunday at Ochilview Park. Kick off 3:00pm.
Queen’s Park will be looking to bounce back from their last outing 10 days ago in a mid-week defeat to Celtic before finding themselves with a week without a fixture.
They will do so with the help of two new acquisitions as midfielder Summer Christie re-joins the club, alongside the loan-signing of Rangers forward Sophie Rutherford.
Hibernian come into the match off the back of a big win against Glasgow City where they beat the league leaders 3-1 almost two weeks ago.
Tomorrow’s visitors have already made the trip to Larbert this season and left 7-0 victors after the second round SWPL Cup clash. The reverse league fixture ended 6-1 in favour of Hibernian at Meadowbank Stadium.
Looking forward to the game, Head Coach Iain Robinson said: “Hibernian are on a terrific run and will be keen to keep it going – so we know it’s another big test for us against the in-form team in the league, but that gives us the opportunity to build on our solid defensive performance last time out against Celtic. It’s not all about the defence though, we have to look to pose more attacking threat that we were able to against Celtic.
“It’s not ideal the stop-start nature of the fixtures as the moment, but with that gives us more time on the training pitch and I feel we’ve made the most of that time. We’ve had a great few sessions on the pitch. As the time passes and the relationships between the staff and players continue to build, I can see the group are growing in confidence with each training session, the quality is improving and the overall standards are improving.
“We’ve been able to add another two new faces this week in Sophie and Summer. Both of whom add different qualities to the team, but I’m excited to see them play over the coming weeks and have no doubt they’ll contribute to the improvement we have been seeing recently.”
