When is the FA Cup fifth round draw? Tottenham fight to be in the hat
Tottenham Hotspur will be aiming to have their name in the FA Cup fifth-round draw, but a strong-performing Champions League team stand in their way.
Spurs take on Aston Villa in an FA Cup showdown
Ange Postecoglou faced the biggest match of Tottenham’s season so far on Thursday night, but his team played as if the tie was a dead rubber. Spurs were hammered 4-0 by Liverpool, meaning only two trophies remain which they have a realistic chance of winning.
The Europa League is probably the best chance Tottenham have of lifting silverware this season. Not only have they achieved qualification directly to the last 16 stage of the competition, but Spurs will not have to face a team as strong as Liverpool or other teams they could meet in the FA Cup.
Nevertheless, the oldest tournament in English club football still offers a great opportunity for Spurs. However, progression to the fifth round requires Spurs to beat Aston Villa away from home.
While Villa have not reached the heights they achieved last season in the Premier League, they have impressed in Europe. The West Midlands outfit recently finished in the top eight of the newly formatted opening round of the Champions League.
When is the FA Cup fifth-round draw taking place?
The FA Cup fifth-round draw will take place on Monday, February 10 at 7:10 pm, a day after Spurs play Villa in the fourth round.
Fifth-round ties will be played across the weekend of Saturday, March 1, a few days after Spurs take on Manchester City in a midweek Premier League fixture.
How can I watch the FA Cup fifth-round draw?
The draw will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Who could Tottenham get in the FA Cup fifth round draw?
If Tottenham manage to make it past Aston Villa, there are 15 possible opponents they could face in the FA Cup fifth round. Spurs will want to avoid teams they have a poor record against in recent times.
Arsenal were knocked out in the third round by Manchester United, so there is no chance of another North London derby this season.
Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and Manchester City are both favourites in their fourth-round ties, as they face Plymouth Argyle and Leyton Orient respectively. Although Spurs may not fear City, having already beaten them twice this season.
Chelsea are another team Spurs would likely rather avoid. The Blues are up against Brighton & Hove Albion away from home.
