Preview: Aldershot Town (A)

0 0

After Fylde recorded an impressive win at Halifax Town on Tuesday night, attention turns to this weekend as we travel down to Aldershot Town on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Tyler Roberts and Nick Haughton ensured the Coasters left West Yorkshire on Tuesday night with all three points after a superb defensive display.

Not only will the Coasters be looking for back-to-back away wins, but Kevin Phillips’ side will also be looking to complete a league double over the Shots who they beat 5-2 earlier in the campaign.

Braces for Charlie Jolley and Gavin Massey put Fylde well on their way to three Mill Farm points and Nick Haughton struck a wonderstrike from the halfway line to earn Fylde all three points.

Aldershot come into the game off the back of a run of eight games unbeaten, including two wins in the FA Trophy.

Despite the recent strong form, the Shots sit just two points and a place above Fylde in the National League table, making it an important game in Hampshire on Saturday afternoon.

Opposition Dugout: Tommy Widdrington

In the opposing dugout this afternoon is former Southampton and Port Vale man Tommy Widdrington. The ex-midfielder is well experienced in both his playing and management career having played over 400 games before being in the dugout since 2009.

Starting out at Southampton where he made his debut, the Newcastle-born midfielder would go on to spend six years at St Mary’s before moving onto Grimsby Town.

From that move on, Widdrington stayed relatively North during his playing days, sporting the jersey of the likes of Grimsby, Port Vale, Hartlepool and Macclesfield Town.

After spending the final five years of his career at Salisbury City, the 52-year-old then moved into management with Salisbury.

A further five years followed in charge of Eastbourne Borough before taking caretaker charge at Bristol Rovers.

After returning to full-time management in 2021 with Kings Lynn, he spent two years there before taking over the Aldershot gig in April 2023.

Tickets are now on sale for this weekend’s trip to Aldershot Town.

The Coasters make another long trip down South in the second of back-to-back away games after the midweek trip to Halifax Town on Tuesday night.

Away supports are based in the South Seating area, however the game will be unsegregated.
