Guglielmo Vicario dreams of playing Super Cup Final with Tottenham
Guglielmo Vicario believes that Tottenham still have a lot to play for this season and can achieve something special, with the Italian also confessing that there is one match in particular that he is desperate to be involved in.
Tottenham harbour hopes of ending their trophy drought
Spurs have been a shambles in the Premier League this season and currently remain rooted to the bottom half of the table.
However, things have gone much better in the cups so far for Ange Postecoglou‘s men, who are still going strong in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and the Europa League.
The Spurs head coach was not shy of letting people know a few months ago that he always delivers a trophy in his second season at clubs, and Vicario believes that the Lilywhites still very much have a chance of ending their trophy drought over the coming months.
Guglielmo Vicario dreams of Super Cup Final with Tottenham
The final of the Super Cup this summer, which will see the Champions League winners go up against the Europa League winners, will be played in Vicario’s hometown of Udine.
The 28-year-old confessed that it will be a dream come true to line up for Spurs at the Stadio Friuli later this year and lift the trophy in the town where he grew up.
The former Empoli man was asked about the big game at Udine and he responded (via Messaggero Veneto): “There’s no point in denying it: I dream of playing that match. It would mean that Tottenham have won the Europa League, our big but very tough goal of the season for which there are still seven games to go.
“On May 21st we want to go and play the Europa League final in Bilbao and win it, then being in Udine on August 13th would be the best. In the fall I made my debut for the national team against Israel at Friuli, playing in a European final there would be the crowning of a dream.”
Vicario focussed on his task at hand
However, Vicario is certainly not getting carried away and is currently focused on what the immediate future holds for him and his side.
The goalkeeper is currently recovering from an injury and he confessed that he is making steady progress as he aims to be back on the pitch for what will be a defining period of the season for Tottenham.
He added: “I’m getting better and better and I want to be ready for the decisive phase of the season. On Thursday, in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, my teammates will have to defend the 1-0 from the first leg at Anfield against Liverpool.
“Then we will have the FA Cup and the Europa League in which we placed in the top eight. And then we have to climb back up in the Premier League, our fans are not used to seeing us like this in the back row.”
