Lauren Willard scored the game’s only goal as Tam secured a 1-0 victory over Marin Catholic on Wednesday, a result that — combined with Redwood’s 0-0 draw against Archie Williams — netted the Red-tailed Hawks the regular-season title for the second consecutive year.

Willard’s goal was assisted by Clio Kunz. Tam (12-4-5, 6-1-1 MCAL) finished on 19 points while Marin Catholic (12-5-2, 5-3-0) remained in fourth place on 15 points. Redwood (18 points) is locked into second and idle Branson (16 points) is the three seed in the MCAL playoffs, which begin next Tuesday.

Terra Linda claimed fifth place following a 4-0 win at San Rafael and travels to face MC in the first round. Archie Williams will play in the other first-round matchup at Branson on Tuesday.

  • Redwood and Archie Williams (5-5-5, 3-3-2) battled to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday but the game was not without a bit of controversy as the Giants thought they’d scored the go-ahead goal inside the final 10 minutes. The Giants (11-2-5, 5-0-3) took a corner kick that went over everyone and through the box. Redwood served the ball back into the mouth of the goal from the other side of the field and a header hit the post and then either the crossbar or the triangle inside the goal and popped back out. The officials ruled that the ball had never crossed the goal line and the game remained scoreless.
  • Tatum D’Angelica netted a hat trick, including a penalty, as San Marin rolled to a 6-0 victory against Novato (0-14-0, 0-8-0) on Wednesday. Sicily Grasso had two goals and an assist for the Mustangs (3-9-2, 1-5-2). Katie Maxwell had a goal and an assist and Gio Ciolino had three assists.
  • Addie Leary, Kacy Walker, and Reese Goodenough scored first-half goals as Marin Academy stayed perfect in league play following a 3-2 win against Lick-Wilmerding. The Wildcats (14-1-1, 9-0-0 BCL West) got an assist from Raya Leikin and led 3-0 at the half.
  • San Domenico secured its best result against University since moving to the BCL West four years ago, falling 3-0 on Wednesday. Sienna Hearing, Leila Olson, and Ana Wang were standouts for the Panthers (2-7-4, 0-6-3), according to coach Fiona O’Sullivan.

Boys soccer

Marin Academy (7-7-4, 6-1-1 BCL West) jumped up into first place above Lick-Wilmerding (10-4-1, 7-2-0) following a 2-0 victory on Wednesday. MA can wrap up the league title on Friday with a win against fifth-place Stuart Hall.

  • Marcelo Passos scored his first goal of the season as San Domenico battled University to a 1-1 road tie on Wednesday. The Panthers (4-7-2, 2-6-1) solidified their bid to finish fourth and make the playoffs in the BCL West by taking a point off third-place University (9-4-5, 5-1-3).

Girls basketball

Avery Myerberg scored 22 points as Branson secured its spot in next week’s MCAL playoffs following a 45-21 victory against Novato. The Bulls (13-11, 4-4), playing their final game of the league campaign, needed to take down the Hornets (13-11, 2-5) to guarantee themselves a playoff berth. Paige Macy and Kate Spaulding had nine points apiece for the Bulls.

Branson and Terra Linda also met in a key boys game between a pair of two-loss teams on Wednesday. The final score was not available at press time.

Prep wrestling

Redwood and San Rafael declined forfeits and wrestled four matches against each other on Wednesday with the Giants emerging with a 14-3 win. Redwood got a decision win by Graham Aanes at 128 pounds, a tech fall from Charlie Seraphine at 140, and a pin by Kaito Naka in 2 minutes, 53 seconds at 192.

San Rafael’s win came courtesy of Anthony Mena via major decision at 177 pounds.

  • Terra Linda closed out the dual-meet season with a 54-22 win against Archie Williams on Wednesday. The Trojans got victories from Santiago De La Rosa (128), Kai Prosbt (134), Arthur Sepan (152), Eric Jimenez (159), Tristan Collins (192), and Joshua Duvuloco (217).

College baseball

College of Marin scored four runs in the second inning but were shut out the rest of the way in a 10-4 loss against Santa Rosa on Wednesday. Adrian Ruiz paced the Mariners (2-4) with three hits and former Novato High standout Derek Bartram had two hits and an RBI. Santa Rosa scored six times in the bottom of the fifth to take the led for good.
