Tom Brady Fans Will Love Patrick Mahomes’ Most Haunting Loss
The lead-up to Super Bowl LIX was filled with constant Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady debates and more ammo was added Wednesday.
Mahomes is on the verge of history as with a win this Sunday, he would become the first quarterback to win three straight Super Bowls. It would give the 29-year-old four Super Bowl titles in his career, which may or may not be enough to challenge Brady’s GOAT status.
One defense of Brady that New England Patriots fans love to bring up is their head-to-head record. Mahomes went 3-3 against Brady in his career. However, the Patriots Hall of Famer is 2-0 in the postseason against the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback. A fact not lost on Mahomes when asked about a loss that keeps him up at night.
“The Super Bowl vs. Tampa. Pretty easy,” Mahomes told reporters Wednesday, per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
Brady indeed lives rent-free in Mahomes’ mind. However, the Chiefs signal-caller’s admission also could be construed as him understanding he still has a lot left in his career to do if he wants to supplant Brady as the GOAT.
Mahomes’ comment during Super Bowl LIX week only served to goad Brady fans even more on social media. So, for fans not enticed by the GOAT conversation, Mahomes’ acknowledgment of it did them no favors.
