Bruins’ Brandon Carlo Has Hilarious Take On Charlie McAvoy’s Offensive Output
Charlie McAvoy has been back for two games, and not only have the Boston Bruins won both contests, but the defenseman has directly impacted the outcomes with two goals.
Fellow blue-liner Brandon Carlo had a different reason for McAvoy’s offensive output after the alternate captain missed seven games with an upper-body injury.
“When he’s involved offensively, it’s great,” Carlo told reporters at TD Garden after Boston’s shutout win over the Minnesota Wild, per team-provided audio. “I think he needs to have more babies because I think he’s got two (goals) in two (games) right now. So, that’s working out well for him. But no, Rhys is definitely pushing him.”
McAvoy and his wife, Kiley, welcomed their son Rhys Michael last week, and the proud new papa promptly scored his first goal since he potted two in the Centennial Game against the Montreal Canadiens on Dec.1.
“Dad strength, as they say,” McAvoy said, per team-provided audio. “It’s been an amazing week and a couple of days for me. Life is awesome right now. It’s nice to have some wins on top of it.”
The New York native admitted he saved the puck from his goal against the Rangers to give to Rhys. The new parents posted a picture on social media of their son in his bassinet.
“It just so happened when I got home; he had on some hockey onesie,” McAvoy said. “So, it was perfect.”
McAvoy scored two goals in back-to-back games for just the second time this season and the first since lighting the lamp in each of the Bruins’ first two games against the Florida Panthers and Canadiens. He now has seven goals and 15 assists across 48 games this season.
The defenseman and his teammates will look to extend their winning streak to three games when they travel to New York to face the Rangers for the second time in three games. The Bruins and Rangers have split the first two games they played this season, with each capturing the victory on home ice.
