Tottenham announce central defender has completed transfer from Liverpool
It was not just Matyhs Tel who arrived through the doors at Hotspur Way on transfer deadline day as Tottenham have also completed a deal to sign a young centre-back from Liverpool.
Tottenham have moved to sign defender for the future
It seemed as if the transfer window was about to end in disappointment for the Lilywhites, but chairman Daniel Levy and the Tottenham decision-makers managed to pull off a late deal for Mathys Tel to make their overall business look respectable, aside from the frustration of not bringing in a senior central defender.
Spurs did not just manage to agree a loan deal for the Bayern winger, but they also acquired an option to buy the player for €55m (£45.7m) in the summer, with the teenager set to sign a six-year deal at N17 should the option get activated.
However, it turns out that Tottenham did not just bolster their first-team squad on deadline day, but also added to their academy stocks by securing a highly-rated young talent from Liverpool.
Earlier on Tuesday, Tottenham announced the signing of Daniel Batty from Manchester City who will become a team-mate of Furnell-Gill.
Tottenham sign Luca Furnell-Gill from Liverpool
Tottenham Hotspur have now confirmed the arrival of Luca Furnell-Gill from Liverpool with the centre-back having penned a contract until the summer of 2028 and will take his place within the club’s academty set-up.
Furnell-Gill came through the ranks at the Preston North End academy before making the move to the Reds as a 15-year-old, and he will now link up with the academy set-up at Hotspur Way.
Interestingly, the teenager started his career as a winger before making the transition to centre-half a few years ago.
Spurs continue to bolster their academy ranks
Over the last few transfer windows, in addition to strengthening the first-team, we have seen Spurs prioritise bringing fresh faces into their youth set-up.
Having a strong academy that produces players for the senior side is evidently an aim of the club and in order to do that, one also needs to be constantly recruiting the best young talent across all age groups.
With Tottenham now quickly developing a reputation as a club which is ready to back young players, they are becoming an attractive destination for talented teenagers.
