Tottenham finally sign an outfield player in Kevin Danso

It has been a long wait for Postecoglou to see an outfield player come through the door and that finally happened on Sunday morning, with the Lilywhites striking a deal with Lens for Danso.

The experienced defender will shore up Tottenham’s options at the back, with Radu Dragusin being the latest centre-back to join the injury list.

The 26-year-old has had a taste of English football during his younger days, having come through the MK Dons academy and spent a season on loan at Southampton.

Ange Postecoglou delighted with the arrival of Kevin Danso

Postecoglou has been crying out for help in his interviews throughout January and he is delighted that some help is finally on his way. He admitted that Tottenham desperately needed a defender and have managed to bring in a very effective option.

The Australian said (via Nizaar Kinsella): “Great to get Kevin in. Desperately needed a defender. He’s a great fit for us. Had a strong career and really wants to push on. He’s quick, dynamic and wants to play with the ball.”

The Tottenham boss believes that the centre-back has the attributes to thrive in his system and admitted that the signing will lift everyone at the club.

He added about the club’s latest move (via Alasdair Gold): “It’s brilliant, I think Kevin will be a great fit for us, we’ve been short at the back for a while, he’s experienced, a good one-on-one defender and, again, I’ve said before getting new players gives us energy.”

Danso is arguably a better fit for Spurs than Radu Dragusin

Danso might not have been Tottenham’s first choice, with the Lilywhites only turning to the Austrian after failing with an approach for Fikayo Tomori.

However, based on Postecoglou‘s statement, it is clear that the former Lens man is one of the players that he and the recruitment department had identified as being a good fit for Spurs’ system.

Danso appears to be a front-foot defender and someone who is not afraid of driving into space if it opens up, which are not qualities Dragusin possesses in abundance.
