Bruins Getting Déjà Vu From Oddly Similar Experiences
BOSTON — The Bruins have experienced oddly similar circumstances in back-to-back weeks.
The Colorado Avalanche completed a trade just hours before their loss at TD Garden last Saturday, shipping off franchise cornerstone forward Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes. The New York Rangers completed a trade just hours before their appearance at TD Garden this Saturday, acquiring forward J.T. Miller from the Vancouver Canucks.
It’s not totally unbelievable, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?
Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco certainly thinks so.
“It’s two weeks in a row,” Sacco said Saturday. “It worked for us last week, but we’ll see what happens this week. No, obviously they’re going to have a spark here, just like Colorado did last week. It creates some energy in their room, and I’m sure I can’t speak to what’s going on there, but anytime a player gets traded the room gets a new energy in there.
“It’s going to be incumbent upon us to make sure we’re ready to play. I’d like to see us feed off the energy in the building here today, as well.”
The Bruins did exactly that early in the first period, turning around a quick Rangers flurry to spend significant time in the offensive zone and eventually draw a penalty.
