Alina Muller Finding Offensive Rhythm For Fleet At Opportune Time
LOWELL, Mass. — It’s been a slow start for Boston Fleet forward Alina Müller this season.
Although she was scoreless in her first eight games, the dynamic winger was the Fleet’s offensive nexus, tallying two goals and four assists in her last four games.
“I obviously wish my start to the season was a little better, more productive for the team,” Müller said after Boston’s 3-2 shootout victory over the New York Sirens at Tsongas Center on Friday night. “But, yeah, just stuck with it. I believe in me every single day and I know it’s going to come together.”
Müller boosted the Fleet when she lit the lamp for Boston’s first shorthanded jailbreak goal of the season with just 13 seconds remaining in the opening frame Friday night.
“We have practiced that in practice a little bit, just taking away that lane,” Müller said of her breakaway goal. “… I was definitely a little lucky, but trying whatever I can.”
She would add a shootout goal in the first round to help secure Boston’s second straight victory over New York this season.
The Northeastern product may have had a little bit of motivation with some of her friends and family in the stands of the sell-out crowd in Lowell.
“Definitely, always super special if I have people from home here,” the Swiss native said. “I give a lot of credit to them that I can be here (playing in the league), and whenever they’re watching or coming (to games), I’ll just do whatever I can to make them proud.”
Müller was named the PWHL’s First Star of the Week (Jan. 20-26) by scoring a goal and adding three assists in Boston’s two games against the Toronto Sceptres and Minnesota Frost.
The Fleet are off until Feb. 12, when they will see the Sirens at the Prudential Center. However, six Boston skaters will compete in the final leg of the 2024-25 Rivalry Series on Feb. 6 and 8.
Boston is currently outside of a playoff spot with 17 points and an overall record of 3-3-2-5 on the season. The Fleet will need Müller to continue her offensive prowess when play resumes in two weeks.
