Tottenham receive answer from Mathys Tel after face-to-face talks
Daniel Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy have beem attempting to close out a sensational deal to bring Mathys Tel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but a new update reveals that things have changed.
Tottenham pushed hard to seal Mathys Tel transfer
Spurs were quick to act after hearing that Tel is on the market, with the Lilywhites striking a €60m (£50.1m) deal with Bayern Munich for the winger’s transfer on Thursday.
However, the transfer was not a done deal because Spurs still needed the player to say ‘yes’, with some sources suggesting that the winger would prefer to leave Bayern on loan rather than on a permanent transfer.
It was revealed on Friday that Daniel Levy himself flew to Munich in order to push the deal over the line.
Mathys Tel rejects Tottenham Hotspur
Unfortunately for Tottenham, the deal appears to finally be dead in the water, with a fresh update suggesting that Mathys Tel himself has rejected a move to North London.
Fabrizio Romano reports that despite Spurs agreeing a deal with Bayern, Tel informed the Lilywhites today that he does not want to join them.
The likes of Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa are still in contact with Tel and his agents, so the 19-year-old could yet make a move to the Premier League this week.
Tottenham will also reportedly ‘explore other targets’ between now and the deadline on Monday.
Do Tottenham have an alternative option up their sleeve?
It is clear that the decision-makers at Spurs really wanted Tel, and one can understand why as the forward’s age and his tactical profile make him an ideal fit for the Lilywhites.
However, Tottenham would surely not have put all their eggs in the Tel basket, risking being left with no time to pursue an alternative if the move falls through in the final hours of the window.
It will be interesting to who Daniel Levy and Johan Lange target in the next 48 hours. Tyler Dibling has been tipped as one potential target for Spurs.
