Tottenham are pushing to sign Mathys Tel

According to various reports, there is a huge battle emerging among several Premier League sides for Tel’s services in the final days of the transfer window, with Tottenham very much in the thick of the transfer race.

It has been asserted that among the various English sides eyeing the teenager, Spurs are the ones who are insisting the most on doing a deal, with the club’s technical director, Johan Lange, currently in Germany to convince the winger to move to N17.

Some outlets have suggested that Tottenham have to pay around €50m-€60m (£41.8m-£50.1m) to wrap up a deal for the teenager before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Daily Mail have now provided an update on Tel‘s future, naming Spurs and Chelsea as the two clubs who have shown the ‘firmest interest’ in the pacy wide-man so far.

The report says that Man Utd, Arsenal and Aston Villa are not out of the running just yet, although those clubs are yet to formalise their interest in the 19-year-old.

The outlet explains that the Bayern Munich man is now waiting to see if the Red Devils and the Gunners will make an offer before making a final decision on which club to join. This would tend to imply that Man United and Arsenal might be his preference.

However, according to the publication, the Frenchman’s number one priority ahead of the decision is to ensure that he gets regular game time at his next club.

Why Tottenham may be well placed to win the race

The Mail go on to say that it is difficult for Arsenal to offer guarantees regarding game time to the Bayern man, while Enzo Maresca may not be able to do that either, given the attackers he has at his disposal in Stamford Bridge.

It is postulated that a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will give the winger ‘a strong chance’ of getting minutes under his belt.

It remains to be seen if that gives the Lilywhites an advantage in the transfer battle as the race for the France Under-21 international intensifies in the final days of the window.
