Tottenham fall behind in the race to sign 20-year-old striker – but they may not mind
Tottenham may have just been handed a transfer blow as Bayer Leverkusen take pole position in the race to sign a highly-rated young forward.
Spurs facing intense competition for PL starlet
It has been widely reported over the past few days that Ange Postecoglou’s men are prioritising adding more firepower to their forward line before the window slams shut in four days.
One man who is allegedly on their radar is Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, who has been made available on loan by the Seagulls over recent days.
It has also been claimed by a number of sources that Tottenham are fighting at least three of their Premier League rivals for Evan Ferguson’s signature.
Tottenham fall behind in race to sign Evan Ferguson
Spurs were already not particularly well placed in the race to sign Ferguson as a few outlets had suggested over the past 48 hours that the Irishman may be reluctant to move to N17 due to concerns over regular game time.
Now, Sky Sports reporter Marc McAdam has handed Postecoglou‘s men a further blow by stating that Bayer Leverkusen are now in pole position to secure the Brighton man’s services.
The journalist revealed that while Premier League clubs are being kept updated on Ferguson’s situation, Xabi Alonso’s men are now in active talks with the centre-forward’s representatives regarding a move to Bay Arena.
Tottenham seemingly want Mathys Tel instead
Based on updates over the last 24 hours, it would seem that Tottenham are no longer focused on Ferguson and have turned their attention to a different forward.
The player now in Spurs’ sights is Mathys Tel, with the latest reports stating that Tottenham have agreed a big-money fee with Bayern Munich.
With technical director, Johan Lange, currently in Germany trying to convince the teenager to move to N17, Spurs must now wait for Mathys Tel’s decision.
