Mathys Tel to Tottenham rumours – Fabrizio Romano provides key update

Tottenham Hotspur have not signed a single outfield player during the January transfer window, but they are reportedly in the race to secure a highly-rated youngster in Mathys Tel.

Tottenham have been in pursuit of a forward throughout the current transfer window. With Dominic Solanke set to miss two important cup matches early next month, a new striker coming in would be a huge boost to Ange Postecoglou’s team.

Spurs initially wanted to sign Randal Kolo Muani, but the Frenchman opted to join Juventus. However, another attacker has caught the eye of Tottenham. 

Along with a number of teams, Tottenham have been linked with Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel. The 19-year-old can play as either a striker or a winger and has made a name for himself during the last couple of seasons with some strong performances.

Latest update on Mathys Tel’s potential move to Tottenham

Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed Tottenham are ‘very interested’ in Tel and are in direct talks with his management. Tel has informed Bayern he wishes to leave the club, however, no decision on his future has been made at this point.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are among seven clubs attempting to sign Tel on loan, with Manchester United also mentioned as a potential destination for the young forward.

The journalist has confirmed Tel’s desire to leave his current employers, as he wants to be guaranteed more minutes on the pitch.

Tel has previously spoken highly of Tottenham legend Harry Kane, describing him as a role-model. However with Spurs 15th in the Premier League Table and relying on a Europa League win to secure a place in Europe’s most prestigious tournament next season, other options may be seen as more lucrative.

Spurs transfer target Tel’s stats

It would be unjust to judge Tel based on his stats from the current season, due to his limited game time. Last season, however, Tel made 30 Bundesliga appearances and he registered seven goals and five assists.

At this stage in the window, any addition to the Tottenham first-team squad is a cause for celebration. Also, the fact Tel is attracting interest from so many clubs shows he would not just be making up numbers, but would offer an attacking threat to Spurs. If they are able to beat the competition, Tel will be a strong signing.
