Ange Postecoglou reveals why Yang Min-hyeok has joined QPR on loan
The highly rated 18-year-old, Yang Min-hyeok only arrived at Tottenham a few weeks ago but he is now set to join QPR on loan until the end of the season. With Tottenham depleted in attack, Ange Postecoglou has explained the decision to send Yang on loan.
Yang Min-hyeok is heading out on loan
From his announcement last summer, through to his arrival at Tottenham in December, there has been excitement and expectation surrounding Yang Min-hyeok.
There was hope among some Tottenham fans that his early arrival after a successful K-League season would lead to Yang featuring in some of Spurs’ matches – particularly given the injury crisis.
However, according to several sources this week, a loan deal was arranged for Yang to join Queens Park Rangers in the Championship for the remainder of the season.
Postecoglou explains why Spurs are loaning out Yang Min-hyeok
With the deal officially announced by Tottenham this evening, Ange Postecoglou was willing to discuss the prospective loan to QPR for Yang Min-hyeok.
Postecoglou said (FootballLondon): “Just to give him a chance to settle into a new culture, a new environment, new league, new country. He’s very young and we feel he needs to be allowed to settle.
“And with our current situation, the last thing I want to do is throw in another young player. We’ve got enough that we’re exposing, they’re doing awfully well. He’s obviously a long-term investment for the football club and we’ve got to do the right thing by him.”
Have Tottenham been over-protective of their young players?
Loaning out Yang Min-hyeok shows a real care for how he settles into life in London. However, with Brennan Johnson set to miss another few weeks and Dejan Kulusevski being heavily over-used, it begs the question of whether Tottenham are being overly protective of their young players who could have potentially contributed more already.
This goes for other positions as well. Will Lankshear has barely featured, as well as Callum Olusesi or Tyrese Hall. Nobody is suggesting that Tottenham’s injuries or position in the Premier League table are a positive environment to give academy players their first minutes.
Nevertheless, with so few players available and Tottenham losing matches regardless, perhaps the fresh impetus of young players ready to prove themselves could have helped over the last month.
We can only hope that Yang thrives at QPR and comes back ready to contribute in the summer.
