Aberdeen 3 Queen’s Park 0

0 21

The match started in nervy fashion as both sides turned over the ball frequently as they attempted to get a foot hold into the game. It would be Aberdeen that settled quickest and had the first attempt on goal of the day as Toni-Leigh Finnegan shot over the bar from distance.

Shortly after, Queen’s Park registered their first effort towards goal. Rachel Wright pounced on a loose ball before a passing sequence between Millie Paton and Dionne Brown eventually found it’s way to Abby Callaghan. Unfortunately, Callaghan’s strike from the edge of the box sailed narrowly wide.

Aberdeen would have the best chance of the game so far just after 30 minutes as Hannah Stewart picked out the on-running Francesca Ogilvie, who had plenty of time and space to pick her spot, but instead fired the ball straight into Lauren McGregor’s arms.

Shortly after this, it was role reversal as Ogilvie picked out Stewart inside the penalty area. Fortunately for Queen’s Park, Stewart could only fire her shot over the bar.

Aberdeen eventually broke the deadlock minutes before half-time. Ellie-May Cowie took the ball down the right-hand side of the pitch. Cowie found space and picked out Kerry Beattie who within two touches had fired the ball high into the corner of the net.

Half-Time: Aberdeen 1-0 Queen’s Park

Aberdeen showed no sign of being content with their one goal lead, and looked keen to double their advantage – and they probably ought to have as Kerry Beattie headed wide of the post from 10 yards out.

The Dons wasted no time dwelling on the missed chance, however, as almost immediately afterwards they did find the second goal. Hannah Stewart scoring after some neat play to find space for the shot.

On the hour mark, Lauren McGregor made a fantastic save to deny Kerry Beattie and keep The Spiders hopes of a comeback alive. Beattie was picked out with a great pass from Hannah Stewart, but the scoreline stayed at 2-0.

Aberdeen found their third goal of the game on the 69th minute. Eva Thomason was allowed time and space outside the box, and the Aberdeen midfielder used it wisely to riffle a strike into the back of the net.
