Spurs’ shrewd move puts them in pole position

Tottenham Hotspur’s dealings with Real Betis last summer now appear even more strategic, as the North London club negotiated a £25 million purchase option for Johnny Cardoso as part of the deal that saw Giovani Lo Celso permanently move to the Spanish side.

The clause, which becomes active at the end of the season, could give Spurs a major advantage in what may now become a competitive market for the player’s signature.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been a standout performer for Real Betis this season and his performances have naturally drawn interest, with clubs across Europe reportedly keeping tabs on him.

Wolves enter the race as Johnny Cardoso attracts interest

The latest reports from Fabrizio Romano, confirm Wolves’ interest in landing the Real Betis man. This interest according to the journalist, comes from their failure to land Manu in a deal that has collapsed.

Following the collapse of their deal with Manu, Wolves are said to have genuine interest in signing Johnny Cardoso. However, a deal will not be straightforward because of Tottenham Hotspur’s £25 million buy option.

Romano’s report aligns with claims by Relevo, a Spanish outlet, which corroborated Wolves’ intentions to pursue Cardoso.

Journalist says Johnny Cardoso deal will not happen

Fabrizio Romano is not the only journalist to share an update on the Wolves and Cardoso deal. In fact, GIVEMESPORT’s journalist Ben Jacobs has also shared an update on where things are with the two parties.

The journalist in a tweet on X, confirms reports that Cardoso is on Wolves’ radar, however, he states that the deal is not expected to happen in January.

Once more, he references Spurs’ £25 million clause which was included in the negotiation for Giovani Lo Celso’s move to Real Betis.

Come the summer of 2025, Ange Postecoglou’s side could easily activate their clause and get their man without any hassle, if he has not already been bought by someone else in January, of course.
