MLB Offseason Rumors: New Update On Offers For Alex Bregman
With MLB’s free agency frenzy in the rearview mirror and spring training in sight, there’s added focus on a household name who’s still lingering on the open market.
Alex Bregman remains in search of a new contract with the calendar nearing a flip to February. Bregman entered the offseason as one of the best position players available, but his free agency dragged out even after fellow high-impact players like Juan Soto, Teoscar Hernández and Anthony Santander found new deals.
In a recent report, KPRC2’s Ari Alexander offered the latest on Bregman’s market.
“The Athletic reported the six-year, $156 million offer the Astros made to Bregman earlier this offseason is still on the table,” Alexander wrote. “The Astros are one of at least three teams to have offered Bregman a deal of five years or longer this offseason, four league sources tell KPRC 2 Sports.”
It’s unclear which other teams made a long-term offer to Bregman. Since the start of free agency in November, the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers seemingly have been attached to the star third baseman the most in rumors. The Toronto Blue Jays also were floated as a potential suitor.
A decision from Bregman might not be imminent, though. His agent, Scott Boras, is very comfortable dragging out negotiations.
