Alasdair Gold makes an interesting observation after it emerged earlier this week that some members of the Tottenham squad are not entirely pleased with Ange Postecoglou’s approach to training.

Stories of discontent now emerging from Hotspur Way

Spurs fans will know from experience that once complaints start emerging from the dressing room about a manager’s methods, the likelihood is that a sacking is not too far away.

That is why there will be concerns about the reports that emerged this week about the unhappiness of some members of the squad regarding Postecoglou‘s approach to training.

It was revealed that certain players at Spurs have privately expressed dissatisfaction with the demands placed upon them during training and the rigorous schedule they are expected to maintain.

Alasdair Gold reacts to reports of discontent

Gold pointed out that reports like these are not new at Hotspur Way as they seem to surface every time a manager is struggling to get a tune out of the side.

The journalist brushed aside these statements as those expressed by players who find themselves out of Postecoglou‘s first-choice eleven.

Reacting to reports of discontent behind the scenes at Spurs, the journalist said on Gold and Guest talk Tottenham podcast: “I could set a reminder on my phone for every 18 months that stories will come out about the current Tottenham manager that training is either too much, not enough, stale or boring. It’s like clockwork every 18 months.

“This is absolutely no dig at journalists, but it normally comes from people around players who are underperforming under that manager or a player who isn’t playing. But ultimately everything I’ve heard it’s not really possible for training sessions to be that intense.”

This is undoubtedly a concerning development for Postecoglou

I do not think it makes sense to just brush aside these reports as musings of players dissatisfied with their game time.

When results start turning sour, fractures start widening in the dressing room, and it would appear that one of the things coming to the fore at the moment is the heavy workload in training.

These divisions in the dressing room will only grow if results do not turn around quickly, with Postecoglou now seemingly in the last chance saloon.
