Patriots Rumors: Title Of Mike Vrabel’s Right-Hand Man Revealed

The Patriots reportedly formally hired John “Stretch” Streicher on Friday.

New England hired Streicher to be its vice president of football operations and strategy, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

Streicher is considered to be Vrabel’s right-hand man. The Patriots head coach previously referred to Streicher as his “personal assistant,” who helped with game management including replays, timeouts and clock management. He earned Vrabel’s trust to the point where he was named acting head coach for a Tennesee Titans exhibition game. He is viewed as Vrabel’s version of Bill Belichick’s Ernie Adams, a trusted and knowledgeable do-it-all voice in the coaching booth.

Sean McVay on Thursday confirmed Streicher would be leaving the Rams after one season. The Los Angeles head coach admitted he was heartbroken over the decision because of how instrumental the former game management coordinator was in helping him out in late-game situations.

Streicher is expected to do the same for Vrabel and the Patriots and his title might hint at larger responsibilities in New England.
