Jets Reportedly Making ‘Strong Push’ For This Coach After Mike Vrabel’s Rejection

The NFL’s game of coaching musical chairs is plenty active, and the Jets still are looking for someone to take their seat.

It won’t be Mike Vrabel, who interviewed with New York but decided to return to the rival New England Patriots. It also won’t be Ben Johnson, who is leaving Detroit but staying in the NFC North to coach Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears.

One of Johnson’s most noteworthy colleagues with the Lions, however, might be the leading candidate to occupy the top of the totem pole in the Meadowlands.

“The New York Jets are making a push to land Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn today,” The Athletic’s Dianna Russini posted to X on Tuesday. “He’s set to visit the team, and they’re hoping to make it happen.”

Glenn obviously is familiar with the Jets, who drafted the former cornerback 12th overall back in 1994. Detroit’s defensive coordinator played the first eight seasons of his career with Gang Green and collected two Pro Bowl selections with the franchise.

The 52-year-old closed out his playing career with a season in New Orleans, though, and the Saints also are interested in Glenn, per Russini. Jets fans are very used to being disappointed, and it sounds like there’s a chance they could experience such feelings when Glenn makes his decision.
