No appetite to sack Ange Postecoglou at Spurs, but he is under ‘serious pressure’

Why have Spurs not backed Ange Postecoglou?

While Daniel Levy has historically been quick to pull the plug on managers if Tottenham fall away from the race for Champions League qualification, he has shown a lot of patience with Postecoglou.

Even though Spurs sit in 15th place in the Premier League table, the hierarchy has continued to give time to the Australian, with reports suggesting that they have decided to back the 59-year-old with key signings.

However, we are yet to see any evidence of Tottenham doing that so far, with Antonin Kinsky being the only new face to arrive through the door despite the perilous injury situation.

Dan Kilpatrick questions lack of January signings

Kilpatrick argues that Tottenham’s predicament has been worsened by the fact that they have not been able to get sufficient reinforcements through the door early in the window.

The journalist admitted that even though there was no appetite at Spurs to sack Ange Postecoglou, the former Celtic boss is now a man under serious pressure.

Kilpatrick wrote in The Standard:” There is a compelling case that the club’s slow start to the transfer window has badly exacerbated the situation; Postecoglou has been repeatedly calling for a new forward since the start of the month, but Spurs have lost three forwards to injury in the past 10 days.

“Injuries, though, could not excuse the level of their performance on Merseyside, for which the manager must take a significant share of the blame.

“There has been no appetite at Spurs to sack Postecoglou, with the club committed to a long-term project and accepting that he has been hamstrung by injuries.

“The manager must, though, be considered under serious pressure, with Spurs in desperate need of addressing their spiralling league form fast.”

Spurs may be reluctant to give Ange Postecoglou money

One of the reasons that the Spurs hierarchy may be hesitant to back Ange Postecoglou with big signings is because of the uncertainty over his future.

If Daniel Levy, Scott Munn, Johan Lange and co are not convinced that the Aussie is the right man to take the club to their objectives, it would not make sense to back him with expensive signings, who Postecoglou’s replacement might not necessarily rate.

However, a report from Football London emerged on Monday morning stating that Tottenham have no plans to sack Ange Postecoglou. It is said that they want to throw support behind him. If that is true, surely we will see some transfer activity from Hotspur Way over the next two weeks.
