Why haven’t Spurs signed a centre-back?

Two-thirds of the January window has now been completed and yet, there is still no sign that Tottenham are close to tying up a deal for any centre-back.

One can argue that Spurs‘ delay in bolstering the heart of their defence has already cost them some crucial points over the last few weeks, and it remains to be seen which player the Lilywhites will now turn their attention towards.

One centre-back who has been heavily linked with a move to N17 is Tomori, who has struggled for game time at Milan this season.

A number of outlets have claimed recently that the likes of Tottenham and Newcastle United are willing to offer the 27-year-old a route back to the Premier League.

Some sources have even indicated that Tomori has been offered directly to Ange Postecoglou’s side, who are now ‘considering’ whether to make a move for the former Chelsea man.

Fabrizio Romano has now provided a fresh update on the centre-back’s future, explaining that one club is planning an approach for the player over the coming days.

However, that is not expected to come from Spurs, but rather from Juventus, with Tomori’s name said to be high on Thiago Motta’s wishlist.

Other clubs also chasing Fikayo Tomori

TBR Football relays this update from Romano and also provides further context by explaining that Tomori is a wanted man across the Premier League.

The report says Spurs are ‘big fans’ of the England international and are continuing to seriously consider entering the race for the player’s signature.

Additionally, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Brighton are said to be keeping a close eye on the situation, while Brentford and West Ham are also named as admirers of Tomori.
