Heung-min Son defends Postecoglou amid Tottenham sack rumblings
Positive results in cup tournaments and appreciation of Tottenham’s injury crisis have earned Ange Postecoglou sack leeway after unacceptable league results. However, Heung-min Son believes it is more than just the manager’s responsibility to get the team out of this slump.
Ange Postecoglou is backed but the mood at Spurs has soured
Tottenham’s injury crisis has been a relentless disruptor to a season where Spurs needed rhythm and regularity to additionally compete in the Europa League.
The lack of depth in the squad has led to further injuries and set Tottenham in an unacceptably low position in the Premier League table.
The manager is always the person who is ultimately accountable, but Ange Postecoglou has been dealt a hand that very few managers could play successfully. He retains the backing of the board and the players give everything they can in these circumstances.
The team needs reinforcements in the transfer window, in addition to unity and commitment from the currently available squad to get out of this dire situation that they face.
Heung-min Son feels everyone at Spurs has to take responsibility
Heung-min Son is a quintessential captain in that he leads by example. With Postecoglou facing criticism, Son feels he and the team are equally responsible for the team’s inconsistent results.
Speaking before the Everton defeat, Son said (Mirror): “It’s not only the manager, it’s also the players and everybody. The results are not something someone should take all the responsibility and blame for. Sometimes it is unlucky that you don’t get the results.
“Not only the gaffer, but every player, including me first, we have to take responsibility for this kind of situation. It’s not the time to be pointing [fingers] at each other. At the moment it’s important that we stick together in every circumstance.
“We were having the conversation before the start of the season about injuries and too many games. And we are still having it. All we can do as players is recover well, sleep well and eat well, and just prepare for the game as much as we can and be on the pitch as sharp as possible.”
Tottenham must back or sack Ange Postecoglou
Reports have stated that Ange Postecoglou retains the full backing of the club. The players are taking accountability and continue to play for Postecoglou. Maintaining this emotional equilibrium is important, but the team needs help with additional players who can contribute now.
Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner are all injured and Richarlison needs his minutes carefully managed. Even if Tottenham are boosted by the return of their starting defence, the attack needs bolstering and going on Spurs’ luck, they probably need additional defensive cover as well.
If the current players continue to play without rest or rotation, there will only be more injuries to come. Postecolgou needs support in a material sense if Spurs are to have a non-catastrophic, let alone a successful season. With sack rumblings coming from sections of the Tottenham support, it could be now or never for Ange Postecoglou.
