Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Everton – Hopeless Hotspur once again
It’s been a disgrace of a forty-five minutes in Merseyside for Tottenham as the Toffees hold a three-goal advantage at the halfway mark. Let’s take a look at our Tottenham vs Everton player ratings from the first half.
Tottenham pre-match injury news surprises Spurs fans
It’s been a week of fresh injuries for Tottenham despite only just getting some important squad players back. Mikey Moore, Richarlison, and Ben Davies have all returned to the Tottenham squad in recent weeks, leaving vacancies on the injury table that didn’t take long to be filled again.
Star striker Solanke, alongside Welshman Brennan Johnson and midfielder Yves Bissouma, have all picked up injuries since the midweek clash with Arsenal.
Throughout these dark times as of late, there’s been one shining light who has finally been given a start in his natural position today. Archie Gray, after months of being deployed at centre-half through lack of another option, has finally got an opportunity to express himself in midfield, alongside the young Bergvall and Sarr. It really is a midfield for the future and the now for Tottenham Hotspur.
Over the duration of the first half, we’ve analysed each player’s individual performance, rating them on a scale of 1-10. Let’s see how they got on.
Tottenham player ratings vs Everton
Antonin Kinsky: Kinsky was important for Spurs in keeping the score at just three in the first-half, most notably tipping a curling shot onto the post from Mangala. He made a few more big saves but ultimately it wasn’t enough as the hosts scored two great goals. 4.
Pedro Porro: Porro was pretty useless on the right flank as his crosses were ineffective and hopeless. He was non-existent in defence again, although it’s unclear whether he was even playing in defence in that first-half. 1.
Radu Dragusin: Dragusin is stealing a living because his attempt at defending Ndiaye for the goal was nothing short of a disgrace. In possession he was the opposite of positive with the ball, refusing to play ti forward, likely because he lacks the ability to do so. The perfect Ange CB, well done to our recruitment team! 1.
Ben Davies: It’s a welcome return for Ben Davies after eleven games on the sideline and he made many tackles and interventions in the first-half. Despite it being his first start from injury, he looked okay and will definitley be important for Spurs in the next few weeks. Obviously, Everton still scored three so it isn’t going to be the highest rating. 3.
Djed Spence: Spence started brightly on the left hand side, linking up nicely with Kulusevski on a number of occasions. He loves a surge forward and he tried to create chances out of nothing, but he was unfortunately unsuccessful. 4.
Archie Gray: Gray looked a little bit out of his depth out there, and he was often quickly smothered by the Everton press when he had the ball – he wasn’t allowed the time he would’ve wanted. He scored an unfortunate own goal to add to the woes of Tottenham right before half-time. 2.
Pape Sarr: Sarr gave away possession really cheaply and it eventually led to Everton’s opener. Other than that, he was poor. 2.
Lucas Bergvall: Bergvall battled hard in midfield, making a number of impressive sliding tackles and lively dribbles forward. It wasn’t all perfect for Bergvall though as he did make a couple of loose passes and cheap fouls, even picking up a booking. 4.
Dejan Kulusevski: Deki looked understandably exhausted but unusually out of ideas in the first-half. He’s usually Spurs’ maestro, but other than a brief flash of brilliance when combining with Spence, he was quiet. 2.
Heung-min Son: Son had a number of golden opportunities in the first-half, and he wasted the first two. Firstly, he took too long to unleasha shot from close range, before a tame shot rolled kindly into Pickford’s palms. Outside those big chances, the Spurs captain was non-existent and showed embarrassing leadership. Son’s wastefulness in front of goal really cost Spurs as the hosts were clinical and scored three. 1.
James Maddison: Really struggling to recall anything Maddison did of note in that first half. A really poor display that reflects the whole team’s performance. 2.
