Roy Keane predicts whether Tottenham will make the Carabao Cup final
The Carabao Cup has reached its climactic semi-final stage, with four clubs vying for a chance to walk out at Wembley. Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has had his say, predicting whether Tottenham will triumph in the second leg to book their place in the final showdown.
The semi-final stage: context behind the excitement
Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle United find themselves one step away from Wembley as the Carabao Cup semi-finals approach their decisive moments.
The first legs provided plenty of talking points. Newcastle United secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Arsenal, putting themselves in pole position ahead of the return fixture at St James’ Park.
Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, edged Liverpool with a slender 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, thanks to Lucas Bergvall’s decisive goal.
However, the North London side now face the unenviable task of defending that advantage at Anfield, a ground where Liverpool are renowned for their ferocity and dominance.
Roy Keane’s verdict on the Carabao Cup finalists
While predicting outcomes in cup competitions is notoriously difficult, Roy Keane did not shy away from offering his thoughts on the League Cup semi-final clashes.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Keane revealed his belief that Newcastle United and Liverpool would ultimately prevail to meet in the final.
Keane said: “Newcastle-Liverpool final. Liverpool will beat Spurs at home, surely.”
Can Tottenham defy the Carabao Cup odds at Anfield?
With Liverpool trailing by just one goal and the tie shifting to their fortress at Anfield, Keane’s confidence in Arne Slot’s side appears well-founded, but Tottenham cannot be discounted entirely.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have battled injuries throughout the season, yet the second leg could see the return of key players such as Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, whose presence would undoubtedly bolster their defence.
Additionally, January’s transfer window provides Tottenham an opportunity to strengthen further before the decisive clash, potentially shifting the balance in their favour. I will not write off Tottenham just yet.
