The Everton Forum • Re: Thelwell talking strategy

We’ve been in on a number of players who’ve opted for clubs with less fucked financial situations and performed well (e.g. a whole bunch of the players propping up Forest’s success).

It’s a rough gig getting beaten to everyone good in your price range because you can’t pay any money up front, your owner would light the club on fire to get rid of it, and your manager hates attacking.

I think he’s done okay in spite of all of that even if his best work is mediocre. We’ve added players who can be on the pitch in PL matches on reasonable contracts instead of guys the manager’s worked with at Newcastle. It’s subtle but it’s important because one of them leads you straight to the bottom of the Championship.

If the PSR chains loosen a little we might be able to add some actual good players. Even the Friedkins having cash to pay fees up front will help.

Seems to be doing some interesting things at the academy level as well.

I don’t know. Maybe things have been so indefensibly bad that a mediocre job looks good to me but here we are.
In terms of the transfers I think it's been mainly mediocre with a couple a poor 1s thrown in. Not sure we've had 1 real success coming in and maybe just onana as a standout sale

I don't think he's been awful but I don't see much of an argument for keeping him around either. That's just recruitment though I don't know about the academy
