Trevor Story Reveals Message He Sent To New Red Sox Teammates

Boston Red Sox starting shortstop Trevor Story has a few new teammates after the additions chief baseball officer Craig Breslow made over the offseason.

And Story made sure to welcome them with open arms.

Story put it on himself to reach out to some of the players Breslow acquired since he’s a clear leader on the team. Story knows what it’s like to switch organizations in the offseason, doing so just prior to the 2022 season when he signed a six-year, $140 million contract with the Red Sox.

So, the nine-year MLB veteran wanted to do his part in trying to help their transitions to a new ball club.

“Just reaching out, welcoming them first of all,” Story told NESN.com this week. “I know it’s a lot to join a new organization. You don’t really know anybody. It’s just a lot of new. If they can hear from me and maybe get some tips on where to live or questions about the organization, whatever it may be. If I can help answer those questions and ease a little bit of that, make them feel a little bit more comfortable, that’s the main the thing.”

Breslow certainly kept Story busy as one of the leaders of the welcoming committee. Breslow added several notable arms to the Red Sox pitching staff this offseason, including sending a shipment of prospects to the Chicago White Sox for Garrett Crochet and signing two-time World Series champion Walker Buehler. He also inked flamethrowing reliever Aroldis Chapman to a one-year deal. Story wouldn’t mind Breslow making one more deal for a certain star third baseman, either.

Story didn’t just provide a helping hand when he talked to his new teammates. He made sure to pass along a message to them as well and set expectations for their upcoming season together.

“Also just to let them know we’re pumped to have them on our team and we’re looking to win a championship,” Story said. “And it’s fun to add a couple of big dogs to that.”
