After Rashford: Another Man Utd starlet 'unhappy' amid transfer links - report
Manchester United are desperate to strengthen their squad but their hands are tied due to profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
The pre-tax loss over last season’s three-year PSR cycle stands at £312.9 million, forcing them to consider sale of homegrown players.
Selling academy players would generate a 100% profit, providing the crucial financial breathing room needed to revamp their squad.
It was reported earlier that INEOS will make ‘unemotional judgements‘ on all outgoings, even if it means cashing in on Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
Manchester Evening News have now revealed that Mainoo is ‘unhappy’ with the initial terms United have offered for a new contract.
This will further add uncertainty around the future of the 19-year-old midfielder.
Chelsea admire the United starlet and are interested in recruiting him.
Mainoo’s current deal runs until 2027 with the club having an option to extend it by 12 months.
However, he signed that contract after making just three appearances for the senior United team.
Since then, he has enjoyed a remarkable 18 months, firmly establishing himself as one of the key players for the Red Devils.
He reportedly earns just £20,000 a week, a figure that pales in comparison to most of his teammates.
He was a standout performer last season but has struggled to replicate that same level of excellence this campaign.
Despite not yet hitting his peak form this season, he has still delivered impressive performances against Manchester City and Liverpool.
Marcus Rashford is another United star who is reportedly unhappy with the club.
The United hierarchy will be keen to address any contract concerns with Mainoo, recognising that he has the potential to become a key stalwart for the club in the future.
