Tottenham’s first winter signing provides depth and promise

Ange Postecoglou, now in his second season as Tottenham boss, completed his first signing of the January transfer window on Sunday, January 5, with the acquisition of 21-year-old Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague.

The Czech Republic international arrives for a fee of £12.5 million and has committed to the club until 2031, signing a six-year deal.

Kinsky’s arrival was not initially part of Tottenham’s winter plans, as reports suggest the club had earmarked him as a summer target; however, injuries to first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and an illness to veteran Fraser Forster forced the club to act swiftly.

This expedited transfer has ensured that Tottenham retain quality cover in a crucial position, especially as the season heads into its most demanding phase.

Antonin Kinsky on why he signed for Tottenham

The young shot-stopper, who successfully completed his medical earlier in the week, expressed his enthusiasm in his first interview with the club.

Reflecting on the move, Kinsky attributed his decision to join Tottenham to conversations he had with people within the club, stating, “I spoke with the coaches, I spoke with the sporting director and almost with everyone I really got the feeling that this is going to be the right choice.”

With Vicario still out and Forster still recovering from an illness, it is very likely that the North London faithful will see their new signing sooner than expected.
