Match Report: Aylesford FC 4-6 Dartford FC

London and South East Regional League Cup, played on Sunday 5th January 2025.

Team: Kerys Baker, Lizzie Adams, Shauni Griffiths, Amy Russ, Xayla-Rae Alberts, Brionne Fowle, Beth Powell, Poppy Payne, Emily Vaughan, Emily Woodhouse, Ellie Dolby.

Subs: Jade Charlton, Gabby Howell, Neve Connor, Sarah Hill

A new year was upon us and 2025 saw us begin with a trip to Aylesford FC in the latest round of the League Cup.

The home side began the game brightly and the early pressure paid off as the hosts took the lead early in the contest. In the 3rd minute, a long clearance from Aylesford keeper, Sade Rider, was headed on by Beth Hulme into the path of Kara Richardson, who slotted the ball beyond the onrushing keeper to put the hosts ahead.

Darts reacted well to going behind and we were level shortly after going behind. In the 11th minute, a corner from Amy Russ was deflected into the net by an Aylesford player and we were back on level terms.

The Darts continued to create chances as the half progressed and we took the lead midway through the first half. In the 20th minute, a great through ball from Amy Russ put Shauni

Griffiths through on goal. The Darts forwarded rounded the onrushing keeper and slotted the ball into the empty net to put us ahead.

Darts extended their lead with two quick fire goals in the 27th and 29th minute. The third goal for the Darts saw Amy Russ score directly from a corner. The fourth goal came from a cross from Emily Woodhouse finding Brionne Fowle in the box. The Darts midfielder finished smartly to put us well in control of this cup tie.

Darts were to make it five before the half time break. A cross from Poppy Payne found Emily Vaughan inside the 6yd box and the Darts forwards headed home to extend the lead further.

The home side were to pull a goal back before half time. A free kick from Milly Penfold came back off the crossbar, the ball fell to Becky Burnham who fired home to reduce the deficit for the home side.

The Darts began the second half very brightly and extended our lead in the 46th minute. A great long ball Poppy Payne found Emily Vaughan in the Aylesford box. The initial effort from the Darts forward was saved well by the Aylesford keeper. However, the ball fell back into the path of the Darts forward who fired home to extend our lead further in this tie.

The home side continued to create chances throughout the second half and reduced the deficit late on. In the 80th minute, a corner from Imogen Armstrong was saved well by Kerys Baker. However, the ball fell to Olivia Kavanagh-Spall who fired an effort into the roof of the net to make it 6-3.

The hosts were to reduce the deficit even further as in the 91st minute, a long throw from Aylesford was flicked on by Beth Hulme into the path of Emma Healy who finished from close range.
