Tottenham have been hit with one issue after another

Just when it seems like the injury situation cannot get any worse, Spurs keep losing additional players almost on a weekly basis, which has made life very difficult for Postecoglou.

On top of the injuries and suspensions that Tottenham are dealing with, they also had to deal with a bug that was making its way around the squad last week, which meant that Fraser Forster could not play against Newcastle and Radu Dragusin only played one half.

Postecoglou did rest some senior players for that game, perhaps with half an eye on the upcoming Carabao Cup semifinal against Liverpool, but he now admits that he would ideally like to give a break to a few others.

Ange Postecoglou wants to rest four Spurs players

Postecoglou made the tough call of leaving Heung-min Son, Yves Bissouma and James Maddison on the bench against the Magpies, handing starts to the likes of Timo Werner and Lucas Bergvall.

However, the Australian admitted that Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray also desperately need a game off, but he has no choice but to continue playing them, given the club’s injury situation.

The Tottenham boss told Football London: “At the moment, the only ones we’re playing regularly are the ones we’ve got no real options for. We have to play them all the time.

“I’d love to give Dom Solanke a rest, I’d love to give Kulusevski a rest, I’d love to give Radu and Archie a rest, because I think that would help improve performance, but it’s just the cycle we’re in.”

A vicious cycle of injuries and fixture congestion

The fact that Tottenham have a considerable number of injuries is leading to even more injuries as a result of too much burden being put on other players at a busy period in the season.

This has led to a vicious cycle, with more and more players going down with muscle injuries after each game. However, there is now some light at the end of the tunnel for Spurs as many of the key players are now edging closer to a return.
