How Patriots Will Operate In Week 18 After Jumping Atop NFL Draft Board

0 17

The Patriots will not intentionally lose their Week 18 game against the Bills, despite the fact a win would alter their standing in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was asked how New England’s current draft position might alter its gameplan and made intentions clear.

“100% focused on beating the Buffalo Bills, and that’s what we have to do,” Mayo said during a video conference Monday morning.

Mayo did, however, keep the door open on some player absences.

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who was under constant pressure and had his bell “rung” during Saturday’s loss to the Chargers, could be held out given his physical standing, Mayo indicated. Third-string quarterback Joe Milton III, who has yet to play a game this season, “absolutely” is a possibility behind center.

As for the NFL draft, the Patriots hold the No. 1 pick entering Week 18. New England elevated up the board after the New York Giants beat the Indianapolis Colts. A loss to the Bills, who have nothing to play for after they wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs, would mean New England picks first in April’s event.
