Tottenham and Barcelona interested in signing Premier League left-back

0 4

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly after one Premier League defender, who has just six months left on his contract, but they face competition for the player from two European giants.

Do Tottenham need a left-back?

Destiny Udogie is the only recognised full-time left-back in the Tottenham squad, with Ben Davies seen as a better fit for the left centre-back role in Ange Postecoglou‘s system.

The Australian has used Djed Spence in that role this season and the Englishman has impressed whenever he has got opportunities.

It thus remains to be seen if it is a position that Spurs will prioritise strengthening in the upcoming window, particularly given that the club are in need of reinforcements in a few other areas.

Tottenham eyeing move for PL left-back

It has now been revealed by Sport that Spurs could wait until next summer and sign one English left-back on a free transfer.

The player in question is Tyrick Mitchell, who has just six months to run on his contract at Selhurst Park, with an agreement not thought to be close.

The report says that the 25-year-old’s situation has also caught the attention of Barcelona and Spurs’ North London rivals, Arsenal.

However, it is not clear if Mitchell is Barca’s top target, with the Catalan club also thought to be keeping an eye on AS Monaco’s Caio Henrique, Feyenoord’s Hugo Bueno and Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras.

Could Spurs make a cheeky offer for Tyrick Mitchell in January?

Mitchell would be a decent fit for Postecoglou‘s system, given the engine and athleticism he possesses and his ability to get forward.

Palace would not want to lose the defender on a free next summer and might thus be tempted to cash in on him next month if they feel that the player has no intention of signing a new deal.

It would be interesting to see if Tottenham put in a cheeky £5m-£10m offer in January to get ahead of the competition as there is going to be a long queue of clubs after the left-back in the summer.
